Tours in and around Novosibirsk

Novosibirsk is slightly more than 120 years old, that's why the most typical architecture here is Stalin-style, known as 'constructivism'. If you want to explore a typical Soviet city, Novosibirsk is the right destination for you. You will walk along broad streets and avenues, find yourself amidst massive constructions, but will be surprised to see nice brick and wooden houses built before the October Revolution 1917, now hidden between high-tech business centers.
You can visit unique museums and plenty of funny modern sculptures.
Choose one of the tours below.

Grand city tour. Option: Academgorodok (research center). Car-based, or walking + public transport.
You will see the main sights including the Railway Station, the Ascension Cathedral (1913),  Lenin Square. Opera and Ballet Theatre, St.Nikolas Chapel (the center of the Russian Empire before 1917), Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (1899) and much more.

We can start the tour anywhere in the city, but I prefer starting it from the Main Railway Station, which is a typical example of Stalin-style architecture, with a lot of emphasis on big and massive forms symbolizing the power of the Soviet State.

We make a stop at Lenin Square and walk in the dowtown. We drink a cup of delicious coffee in one of numerous cozy cafes, visit one or several museums, for example, the museum of Russian Birch Bark, or Nikolas Roerich Museum.

A closer look at the Opera and Ballet Theatre is a must. It is the biggest theatre building in Russia and one of the biggest in the world.  Its main hall holds up to 2000 people, and its dome in unique in its correlation between the diameter and the thickness.

If you wish, we can walk more and see some brick and wooden houses built before 1917.

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is the first brick building in the city built in 1899. In 1930 the Soviet government  wanted to destroy the church, but it survived and now it's one of the most beautiful and oldest city buildings.

After that you'll see the place where it all started after the railway bridge was built in 1893.

The tour may include a visit to Academgorodok, the district built in the 50ies for the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science. Today it is one of the 'brainiest' settlements in the country. The Novosibirsk State University is situated there, as well as approximately 40 scientific and research centers doing all sorts of research. Academgorodok is not big, but it's the greenest city part with as many trees preserved during its construction as possible.

In Academgorodok you may visit the open-air railway museum, the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography, the Geological Museum (early booking required), the center of innovations or just enjoy a walk along quiet streets.

Novosibirsk downtown, walking, appr. 2-3 hours
Novosibirsk is a very busy city, and sometimes it is nearly impossible to drive here. So if you don't have a lot of time or don't want to spend it in endless traffic jams, a walking tour of the downtown is just the thing you need!
You will see all the main attractions along with quiet and cozy city streets in so-called 'quiet center', which is rarely explored by visitors. If you get tired or want to see more of the city, we can make use of the public transportation, which can be an adventure in itself, or take the subway. Pretty modern, with the first station opened in 1985, it takes you outside of the downtown to the districts rarely visited by tourists.

If you have several days in Novosibirsk or want something off the beaten track, explore its surroundings, and you will be definitely impressed by them.
I offer:
 - a bus/car tour to Kolyvan, the 270-years old settlement with a lot of old architecture, a beautiful church and a monastery.
- a car-based tour to the Bald peaks of Bugotak.
- a car-based tour to Berdskiye Skaly (Rocks on the Berd) with easy trekking.
- a car/bus tour to Tomskaya Pisanitsa, the open-air museum of ethnic, archaeological objects, woodcraft overlooking the river Tom' and located about 300 km to the East of Novosibirsk, but only 40 km to the north of Kemerovo, a capital of the Russia-famous coal-mining region Kuzbass.
- a car/bus tour to Tomsk, the city lying 250 km to the north from Novosibirsk. The city is 400 years old, with hundreds of nice old wooden houses, many world-recognized universities and many other attractions.
- a grand wooden church (beginning of the 20th centory) in Turnayevo village.

Any other tour to any other place in Novosibirsk Region. If you know what you want to see, I will be happy to accompany you there. I can help you arrange a tour to Altai Mountains or any other place in Siberia, including Biysk, Barnaul, Kemerovo and accompany you there. I can also help you plan your travel to other cities like Irkutsk with Lake Baikal, Yakutsk, Yekaterinburg making you connected to my friends and colleagues there.
